How much does Unstructured cost?

Unstructured charges $0.015 per page on Pay-As-You-Go, which is $15 per 1,000 pages, and its documentation describes the price as flat across document and extraction types. The first 10,000 pages are free once per account, with no card required. After that, requests fail until you upgrade to Pay-As-You-Go, and usage is billed each calendar month. Business plans with a dedicated instance or VPC are custom priced.

How much does Unstructured cost per page?

A page costs $0.015 on Pay-As-You-Go. For PDF, PPTX and TIFF files a page is one page, slide or image. For DOCX files the count comes from the document metadata. For every other file type, Unstructured counts a page as the file size divided by 100 KB, so a 1 MB CSV bills as roughly 10 pages no matter how many rows it holds, and 1 MB of raw non-file data is also 10 pages.

Is Unstructured free?

Only for the first 10,000 pages, and only once. Unstructured's billing documentation says the 10,000-page credit applies once per account and that processing requests begin failing after it unless you upgrade to Pay-As-You-Go. It used to give 15,000 free pages every month. LlamaParse is now the vendor with a renewing free allowance, 10,000 credits a month on its Free plan.

Does Unstructured still have a $3,000 spend cap?

No. The $3,000 monthly cap, after which pages were free up to a million a month, is no longer on the Unstructured pricing page or anywhere in its documentation. The published rate is a straight $0.015 per page with no ceiling, and Unstructured points high-volume users to its sales team for volume pricing. At a million pages a month the list price is now $15,000, five times the old capped bill.

Did Unstructured get cheaper or more expensive?

Both, depending on volume. The per-page rate halved from $0.03 to $0.015, but the monthly free tier and the spend cap went away. At list price the new card costs more below 30,000 pages a month, because the old 15,000 free pages covered most of that, and costs less between 30,000 and 200,000 pages. Above 200,000 pages a month it costs more, because the old bill stopped at $3,000.

What is Unstructured used for?

Unstructured, whose hosted product is now called Unstructured Transform, turns PDFs, Word files, slide decks, emails and images into clean JSON elements and Markdown that a large language model can use. It partitions, enriches and chunks documents for retrieval and AI agents, and its Extract step can pull structured data. If you need validated business fields posted into an accounting or ERP system, that is a different job than what its per-page rate covers.

Is the $1 per 1,000 pages Unstructured rate still valid?

No. The "$1 per 1,000 pages" figure in older comparison articles was an early serverless API rate and was retired long ago. The rate after that was $0.03 per page with a $3,000 monthly cap, and that is gone too. The current published rate is $0.015 per page, $15 per 1,000 pages. Anyone budgeting from a 2024 article is off by a factor of fifteen.

Is Unstructured cheaper than AWS Textract or Azure?

For plain OCR, no. AWS Textract, Azure AI Document Intelligence Read and Google Document AI all list text detection at $1.50 per 1,000 pages, while Unstructured is $15, ten times more. Unstructured is doing more per page, partitioning the document into elements and Markdown rather than returning raw lines of text, but with the spend cap gone it no longer drops toward cloud OCR rates at volume without a negotiated contract.

Why does my Unstructured bill show a different rate?

Unstructured's own account documentation says the Billing tab shows your account's current billing rate per page, which allows for accounts on older or negotiated rates. Business accounts are billed through an account executive rather than self-serve. If the rate on your Billing tab does not match $0.015, the tab is what you are actually paying, so budget from it.
